Speculation: Myths vs. Facts
The Commodity Markets Oversight Coalition, an alliance of commodity derivatives end users and consumers, has released an invaluable four page resource separating at the facts from fiction in the complex world of excessive speculation. Covering topics such as the history of excessive speculation, free market principles, how this impacts the average consumers, as well as what is needed to restore safety and soundness to our economy, this is a must read.
The Tri-State Coalition for Responsible Investment has lead the work at the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility on reviewing these concerns both with institutional investors and multinational corporations. Members, along with the Maryknoll Global Concern’s office and other colleagues, have spoken with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and Congressional leaders to raise the concern of how excessive speculation affects those most vulnerable in our society.
