Emily Barkley joined Investor Advocates for Social Justice in August of 2026. She serves as the Program Associate on the Climate + Dignity campaign. Emily’s experiences in domestic and international public health ignited her passion for environmental justice, which in turn became her area of study in college and graduate school. She brings expertise on climate change mitigation and adaptation, environmental policy, and community collaboration and education to her role at IASJ. Prior to joining IASJ, Emily was an Environmental Health Intern at Clean Water Action; Policy Intern for the North Carolina Environmental Justice Network; Intern for the Executive Communications and Medical Donation teams at CMMB, and a Researcher and Volunteer at Area 25 Community Hospital in Malawi, Africa. She was also a Team Leader and Product Inventor for Women In STEM Solving Problems (WISSP) where she was named on the Design and Utility patents for a hybrid sanitary napkin benefiting teen girls at the Dzaleka Refugee Camp. Across those prior roles, Emily gained experience translating scientific data for community access, developing policy briefs, engaging with stakeholders, and evaluating public health programs in the areas of environmental equity, holistic healthcare, and environmental health issues. Emily graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.S. in Environmental Health Sciences and an MPH in Environment, Climate and Health. Contact Emily at ebarkley@iasj.org.
