Ashni Verma joined IASJ as a Business and Human Rights Legal Intern for the summer of 2024. She is a second-year student at New York University School of Law, where she serves as a Research Assistant for Professor Helen Hershkoff and Dean McKenzie on civil procedure issues and as a student leader in the South Asian community.

Prior to law school, Ashni developed a multidisciplinary approach to issues related to human rights and accountability. She received her B.S. in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University, where she studied labor and employment issues, particularly as they intersected with international law and environmental justice. As an intern with ActionAid Zambia, Ashni conducted research on corporate social responsibility programs in Zambian copper mining communities and their impacts on local communities. She co-wrote a report sharing her findings and recommendations for publication by the Southern African Institute for Policy and Research. After graduating, Ashni worked as an Analyst for the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO), where she audited agencies’ administration of federal programs and developed expertise in topics related to civil drone aviation, sustainable procurement strategies, and campaign finance.
